Just a quickie!

Just a quick column to remind everyone that there is still lots happening on the Ave after school starts.

First, we have St. Clair West BIA paying for customer parking Saturday, Sept. 9th, 2006 on St. Clair. Their merchants are having a Sidewalk Sale and they really want you to come and shop.

On Sept 17th, 2006, there’s a Charity “Retro” Purse Auction happening at Zemra Bar Lounge (info@zemrabarlounge.com). There is word that the most beautiful ‘supermodel’ candidate to run for Mayor may attend. Possibly other media types too.

A Call to Artists for Solar Sculptures will be announced Sept 21st, 2006, @ Regal Heights Bistro by St. Clair West BIA. Check it out.

Artwalk starts Sep 30th, 2006 and goes for two days. Local Art, local music, get out to see and hear everything!


Rona’s Ruminations

If the entire block is to become a condo tower, how come your building is for sale now? And aren’t the other buildings attached to you already sold and getting ready for demolition?

How do large, silver, three-holed garbage containers move around so frequently on the Ave? Now there is one on Christie St., just south of St. Clair. It wasn’t there last week.

Is there an all-day brekkie joint coming to the Ave, just around Glenholme Ave?


Park the Car!

The swiftest Parking Authority in Canada.

Heard that a small lot will be off Kenwood Ave., where a house was demolished. The house went down a few weeks ago, the lot is already there.

Where, oh, where are the parking lots on the other side of Winona Ave.??


Hope Springs Eternal

New dress store @ Arlington Ave. “LIT”, nice stuff, very soft, very different.

Fucuma @ Greensides & St. Clair and Angel Interiors @ Christie St., join George Tracy( Arlington Ave)and Insideout ( Atlas Ave) in the interior/ exterior home decorating market. Don't move , just decorate.



Strange Bedfellows

So, Fred Dominelli had taken over Harvey’s old store at Oakwood & St. Clair for his campaign office. Wasn’t Harvey a large, white, invisible rabbit? He took on mythical proportions for this little weasel. Will Fred do the same??

No sign yet of either Alejandra Bravo or John Sewell in either ward. John Adams has declared in the fight against ‘Good Ole Joe’.

According to the Star, no big happenings till October, aw shucks.


Crime & Well…Not Nice People

Time for a bit of a diatribe by a ferret. Never heard one before? Hang onto your knickers!!!

This concerns all the apartment buildings on The Ave that are being infested by crackheads and other human flotsam.

Like the massage parlors and check-cashing joints, this does not bode well for the ‘hood.

We’ve seen what apathy by neighbours, tenants, landlords and homeowners can do to a community, witness Parkdale, Bloor & Lansdowne, Lakeshore Blvd W….
We have to use and own our streets, including St. Clair.

Shop at the local businesses, use the local libraries, the rec centers, the coffee shops.

Crime hates clean places and minds. Get rid of the graffiti on your property, help the shop owners to get rid of it on theirs. Turn in the nasty people who are marking up other people’s property. You know who they are, call the cops when you see them.
Crime hates friendly people, get to know your neighbours, your local merchants, get out of your cars. Walk around.

You paid enough for your house, you pay a lot of rent, you pay a ton of taxes, keep up the value by not allowing punks and nastiness to stay in our ‘hood.

There, all done. Rona feels soooooo much better.
