Making St Clair Accessible- Project and Service Updates
Wed Nov 9, 2016

TTC is preparing for the return of the streetcar service between St Clair West Station and St Clair Station on November 20, 2016.   This means that as of November 20, streetcars are scheduled to be restored across the entire St. Clair corridor.

TTC began co-ordinating various accessibility and infrastructure improvement projects inside both St Clair and St Clair West stations and along the St Clair streetcar route in the summer of 2016. Construction is required to prepare for the new, low-floor, accessible and air conditioned streetcars, which are scheduled to begin operating on St. Clair Avenue in 2018.

The following is an overview of the projects completed:

St Clair Station (at Yonge)

•The streetcar loading platform was re-constructed

•PRESTO fare gates installed

•Replaced the overhead wires inside streetcar loop

•Work is on-going for the replacement of the station roof (until December 21, 2016)

St Clair West Station (at Bathurst)

•Tracks and overhead wires on the on-ramps leading out of the station were replaced and upgraded

•PRESTO fare gates installed

•Easier Access Project (is ongoing)

St Clair Streetcar Right-of-Way

While the station projects took place, the TTC was working along the streetcar dedicated right-of-way on St. Clair Avenue.

512 St Clair streetcar route platform adjustments:

  • Adjusted a four-metre section of passenger platform to conform with the deployable ramp working range
  • Installed extra railing for added safety
  • Placed tactile strips for accessibility purposes

Construction involved retrofitting a four-metre section of each passenger platform to ensure customers using mobility devices can easily board the new, low-floor streetcars.

Here are the associated transit service changes:
